Notes from the Members of the Board:
Technically, A Tale of Two Cities was released in 1935, but in order to properly compare our awards and choices against the Oscars, we decided to honor the Academy’s mistake of including it in with the 1936 films. In the tradition of “never heard of” notes, Ruth Chatterton won Best Actress for Dodsworth, and prior to seeing that film, we’d never heard of her. Three Smart Girls , was the original of the beloved story The Parent Trap, remade in later decades.
