Along Came Polly (2004)
Along Came Polly is a pretty cute movie that’s very funny, and best watched with a mostly vacant mind. I own this movie and have seen it close to fifty times; I’ve gotten to the point where I’m noticing flaws and trying to rewrite the plot.
For those who have seen it less than ten times, it’s a great flick. A man who depends on structure in his life finds his world turned upside down after his new bride leaves him for another man on their honeymoon. Enter Jennifer Aniston, who seems typecast to play perpetually flighty, grungy girlfriends. As advertised by the title, along comes Polly and shows the structured Ben Stiller how to really live.
Without a doubt, the funniest parts of the movie are the Philip Seymour Hoffman scenes. He plays Stiller’s “wingman”; everything out of his mouth is hilarious. Along Came Polly is a great light romantic comedy to watch with your friends, or even during date night—but only if you’re already really, really comfortable with your partner. There’s a pretty embarrassing sex scene and a gross toilet scene that might make things awkward.
