Bad Girls (1994)
Can you imagine Madeleine Stowe, Mary Stuart Masterson, Andie MacDowell, and Drew Barrymore as prostitutes in the Wild West? If you can’t, go out and rent Bad Girls, an adventure of four working girls on the lam after Madeleine shoots and kills a gruff customer.
This is a very tongue-in-cheek movie, glamorizing prostitution as many Hollywood flicks do. Of course all the girls are attractive, have nice figures, no diseases, and aren’t using any substances to numb their pain. Andie continues to flirt with men even after they swear off their old livelihood, Mary has a smart head for figures, and Mary is strong and fearless. This is not a realistic movie, so just accept that and enjoy it. In one scene, the four girls decide to take a bath in broad daylight in a deserted watering hole. They’re splashing around, having a grand time, when they see Dermot Mulroney has followed them. Madeleine doesn’t bother with a towel, but instead grabs a rifle and demands to know what he’s doing there. In real life, that’s not the smartest thing to do, but this is Hollywood! If you liked Wild Wild West or Bandidas, you’ll probably get a kick out of this one, too. Feminists will probably really like it, since Madeleine is one tough broad.
