Barbie: What a Doll!
by Laura Jacobs
For that girly girl who played with Barbies as a kid—or if that girly girl is you—this is an absolutely darling read. The entire book is written by Barbie, as told to Laura Jacobs, so the readers are treated to a firsthand account of Barbie’s recollections of her different fashions from 1959 to 1994, when Barbie’s thoughts were published.
Those of you who adore retro fashions will also love this book, because almost every page has a full-page photograph of Barbie in a beautiful dress. Those of you who only played with Barbies in the past two decades or so and are looking for a more up-to-date collection will have to look elsewhere, since most of the book features an original Barbie as the model. My mom passed down her original Barbie to me, as well as quite a few outfits, which added to my enjoyment of this book. How exciting is it to see a Barbie you and mother played with, modeling a dress you actually own? Pretty exciting, so head on out there and pick up a copy for a one-on-one conversation with Barbie herself!
