Downton Tabby
by Chris Kelly
If you absolutely love cats and absolutely love the PBS series Downton Abbey, you’re the right audience for this cute pocketbook spoofing both entitled Downton Tabby. The cover features kitty cats dressed up in 1910s clothing and lined up like the promotional posters of the tv show.
However, when you open the pages, you’ll find it’s little more than a few bad puns and pictures of cute, dressed up cats. The spoofed plot seems to be written by someone who didn’t like the show in the first place, like insulting the looks of certain characters and callously killing off cats whose corresponding humans tugged at viewers’ heartstrings. It was a very thoughtful gift that I was actually given twice, but it’s not one I’ll choose to read over and over again.
