This week, Hot Toasty Rag will be celebrating the films of Kirk Douglas! He'll probably last longer than a week, though, since I've got 40+ movies scheduled to review. But hey, I'm a fan! And hopefully after this week, you will be too. To start with, I've posted Spartacus, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and the first Kirk Douglas movie I ever saw: The Bad and the Beautiful. Check his page every day for more reviews!

Still in the mood for some political analysis? Good, because I’ve got three more books for you! Last week, I shared a review of Plato’s Republic, so it’s only fair that today I post reviews by and about Aristotle, Plato’s student and protégé. Check out his Politics and Nicomachean Ethics, as well as the analysis After Virtue. Then come up for air!
Catherine Zeta-Jones's time as Star of the Week has come to a close, and all 21 of her movies have now been posted to her page. Here's a clue for next week's star:
They never made a movie together, but next week’s star has a very special relationship to Catherine Zeta-Jones, and he just turned 101 last month! Hopefully you guys can all guess who it is, and check back on Wednesday to start reading his reviews! This week, Hot Toasty Rag will be reviewing the movies of Catherine Zeta-Jones! To start with, we've posted The Mask of Zorro, Intolerable Cruelty, and one of my favorite movies: Chicago. You know the drill--check back every day this week for more reviews. Also, I don't review television on The Rag, but if you want to see how Catherine got her start, check out the three-season British series The Darling Buds of May. As you already know, I was a political science major in college, and just as I did with all my film books, I’m slowly slogging through all the political books I read in college—isn’t decluttering great fun?—so here are a couple more reviews from “back in the day”.
If you haven’t read Plato’s Republic and The Prince, you’re missing out on some basic and crucial political analysis. Plato and Machiavelli are two founding fathers of classic and modern political thought. While Plato seeks to create an ideal society, Machiavelli’s on a quest for power. Which school of thought do you subscribe to? I’m on Team Plato. Jude Law's time as Star of the Week has come to a close, and all 20 of his reviews have now been posted to his page. Here's a clue for the next star:
We’ve had three men in a row; it’s time for a lady. And what a lady! This Welsh beauty was a costar of Jude Law’s in a Steven Soderbergh film. Any guesses? This one's a little tough, so you might have to go back and read his reviews to remind yourself of his costars. Check back on Tuesday to find out if you're right! The very first Star of the Week for 2018 is Jude Law! To start with, we've got reviews posted for Alfie, Sleuth, Anna Karenina, and my favorite (a perfect New Year's movie) The Holiday. Check out his page every day this week for more reviews! |
