Emily Blunt is our new Star of the Week! It was a bit of a trick clue, so I apologize. There won't be any tricks next time around. To start things off, you can watch a video clip of her singing in Into the Woods, or read reviews of two fun thrillers: The Adjustment Bureau and The Girl on the Train. Enjoy, and come back to her page every day for new reviews!

Remember in the Jim Carey movie The Majestic, he's sitting around the screenwriters' table and everyone puts in his two cents: "I've got a 'what if'. . ." I recently read two books that had wonderful 'what if' potential, and are great conversation starters. Written by Tim Tigner, The Price of Time and Stolen Thoughts will really make you think.
Movie fans probably feel the same way about political thrillers like The Manchurian Candidate, starring Frank Sinatra, and Seven Days in May, starring Kirk Douglas, Ava Gardner, and Fredric March. What would you do if these situations became real? Dick Van Dyke's week has unfortunately come to a close, and all 27 of his reviews are now posted to his page. That was fun, wasn't it? Your next clue awaits. . .
Dick Van Dyke sang and danced with this magical nanny. Come back on Wednesday to start her week! A big toast to Dick Van Dyke, our new Star of the Week! To start things off, you can watch a sweet video clip of him singing and dancing with his wife from the inspiring documentary If You're Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast. You can also read reviews for two unexpected dramas, The Morning After and The Runner Stumbles. And don't forget the book review of his memoir Keep Moving, also posted to his page. I know he's a big television star, but the Rag doesn't review series. But catch him in five seasons of The Dick Van Dyke Show, three seasons of The New Dick Van Dyke Show, and eight seasons of Diagnosis Murder! Let's dry our tears, shall we? Enough sad books and tearjerker movies already! Since it's spring, here are some suggestions to make you laugh: Check out A Good Demon is Hard to Find or A Witch's Work is Never Done, two funny quick reads. For movies, try The Wrong Box with Michael Caine or Tiara Tahiti with James Mason. Enjoy!
If you're the type of person who believes in 'a good cry', you've probably found a movie or book often does the trick to get the waterfalls flowing. I recently read the new novel Three More Months - what a tearjerker! You can probably guess from the title. . . There's also the classic Pay It Forward that you can always dive into, or if you'd rather watch a sad movie instead, try the infamously tragic Mayerling with James Mason and Ava Gardner.
Nancy Kwan's week has come to an end, and all 12 reviews have now been posted to her page. Are you ready for your next clue?
This song and dance man is still going strong at 96 years old! He made a cute comedy with Nancy Kwan in the 1960s. To start his week, come back to the Rag on Tuesday! Nancy Kwan is our new Star of the Week! To start things off, we've posted reviews on her page for Tamahine and The World of Suzie Wong, and a video clip from Flower Drum Song. Enjoy! Can you believe Hot Toasty Rag is now five years old? When you think of the hundreds of book reviews and the thousands of movie reviews, I guess it makes sense that so much time has passed since the very first May 1st.
Who have been your favorite Stars of the Week? What reviews have inspired you to read new books or watch new movies? Have you been pleasantly surprised by our award choices? Let me know your favorite Rag moments the comments, or give me a request for who you'd like to see honored as a Star of the Week - but the best gift of all would be to keep coming back and reading our posts! |
