Since we just finished honoring Kate Winslet’s films, I thought it would be a good time to review Jane Austen’s novel Sense and Sensibility. Not to into the classics? Try out Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters instead!
Come back tomorrow for the new Star of the Week! Kate Winslet's week has come to a close, and all 24 of her reviews have been posted to her page. Here's your clue for next week's star:
Although best known for playing villains, you can find next him in a Jane Austen classic alongside Kate Winslet. Pretty easy, huh? You probably know who it is, so check back on Thursday to see if you're right! Kate Winslet is our new Star of the Week! To kick things off, we've got a video clip posted to her page from The Holiday, as well as reviews for three of my favorites: Carnage, Labor Day, and The Holiday. Come back every day for new reviews, and enjoy! Since I just finished reviewing one version of Mildred Pierce and will be reviewing the other in the next couple of days, I thought this would be a good time to review the original novel.
I rented a three-volume collection of James M. Cain stories from my college library. I had a long weekend, and just in case I finished one book, I wanted another ready for me so I wouldn’t have to take the bus back to school mid-Saturday. (My apartment didn’t have WiFi, as crazy as it sounds.) Before class on Monday, I’d read all three books and headed back to the library for a fresh batch of novels for the week. James M. Cain is hard to put down! For steamy romance lovers who like a hint of murder in their stories, check out Double Indemnity and The Postman Always Rings Twice. Too tired for all that excitement? Mildred Pierce is the one for you. If you identify with the Mama Rose character in the musical Gypsy, an overworked, sacrificing mother who gets nothing in return, you’ll love this one. Joan Crawford's week has come to an end, and all 35 reviews are now posted to her page. Are you ready for your next clue?
Time to get back in that time machine, folks. Next week’s star took on Joan Crawford’s Oscar-winning role in a remake that won her a Golden Globe and an Emmy. Do you know who she is? Check back on Monday to find out if you're right! |
