One of my favorite things about Goodreads is their end of the year recap, where they show you all your books you've read. It's a great way to reflect and remember, "Oh, I read that this year?" Sometimes you can gain more perspective that way. I read the Young Adult fantasy novel Heartless this year, and it was at the top of my Goodreads page because I'd rated it so highly. Read the full review to find out why.

How's this for timing? George C. Scott's time has come to an end just before the end of the year. It's soon time to celebrate our first Star of the Week for 2023! All 32 of his reviews have been posted to his page, and here is your clue:
If you watched George C. Scott in a Christmas movie this season, then you also saw our next Star, who also acted in a famous Bronte story with him. Leave your guesses below and come back on January 2nd to find out if you're right! It's that time of year again: the 12 Days of Christmas movies here on Hot Toasty Rag! (George C. Scott will continue on December 26.) I love this part of the year, catching up with all the Stars of the Week, and throwing in a few modern flicks to round out the holiday spirit. Come back directly to this post every day for new reviews, and you'll find the full list below. Also, if you want to see the entire collection from years past, click here. I hope you enjoy and find some new (and old) movies to watch, and a very Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Day 1: Christmas with Donna Reed and Ward Bond Day 2: Christmas with Edna May Oliver
Our final Star of the Week for 2022, as well as our Christmas Star, is George C. Scott! To start his time off, we've posted reviews for his remakes 12 Angry Men, and an excellent forgotten drama, Choices. as well as a video clip from one of my favorites, Anatomy of a Murder. For his television work, you can look for one season of East Side/West Side, and one season of Mr. President. Enjoy, and come back to his page every day for new reviews until December 14 - when we start the 12 Days of Christmas Movies! Is it raining where you are? Snowing? Maybe all you want to do today is curl up with a nice fire and a blanket and pop in a matinee movie. If that's the case, try out one of these three and heat up your popcorn maker:
Youngblood Hawke - a soapy melodrama about a bad-boy playwright, featuring Mary Astor Raffles - a cute classic caper, starring Kay Francis The Great Waldo Pepper - Robert Redford will brighten any gloomy day, especially if he's flying around in a yellow airplane! Usually, my posts include three or four reviews lumped into a category, like thrillers or beach reads. Sometimes, there's a book that's so special, it gets its own spotlight. The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo is that special. I couldn't put this historical fantasy down, even as I wanted to make it last as long as possible. I highly recommend this book, as it's fascinating, educational, and completely absorbs you with its world and characters.
Technically, Nantucket Nights isn't a New Year's book, but I still thought it was a fitting choice to ring in the first of January. The plot starts with three women who have an annual tradition of enjoying a decadent midnight picnic on the beach and toasting champagne. So, even though it's a summer book, it's still a fun choice for this time of year. Read my full review to learn more.
