Marilyn Monroe: Quote Unquote
by Janice Anderson
This little book is similar to a coffee table inspirational book, only Marilyn Monroe themed. The three elements included are photographs, quotes from Marilyn herself, and a straight-forward, somber-toned biography.
This is a good book for someone who’s never read a Marilyn bio. I’ve read about a dozen, so the vast majority of the quotes I was already very familiar with. Those of you who don’t know she said, “All little girls should be told they are pretty, even if they aren’t,” or “Hollywood is a place where they’ll pay you a thousand dollars for a kiss and fifty cents for your soul,” will get a lot out of this book.
Although she has one of the most recognizable faces in the world, entire books have been devoted to compiling nothing but photographs—famous and obscure—of Marilyn Monroe. Janice Anderson didn’t put together the best quality collection I’ve seen, but again, for someone who hasn’t read as many biographies or seen as many pictures as I have, it’s a great book to start out with.
