Marilyn Monroe
by Marie Clayton
This DVD and book set is the perfect gift for that Marilyn Monroe fan in your life. I’ve read about a dozen books on the blonde legend, so when my oldest girlfriend gave me this set, it was a sure bet I would love it. It truly is fantastic, with 250 pages of glossy black and white photos of the star, from her early career to the film never released, Something’s Gotta Give. This is mostly a pictorial read, with captions serving as most of the written words.
For those just starting out in their Marilyn biographies, this might not be the best to start with, since it’s mostly pictures. But for those like myself, who have her entire life practically memorized, this is fantastic. Classic photographs are interspersed with publicity stills, frames from her movies, and off-screen gems. And as a bonus, there’s a DVD with more photographs and video clips for your enjoyment. It’s not the best or most thorough documentary I’ve ever seen, but it’s really nice that a DVD is included in a biography of a movie star.
