Sea of Love (1989)
If you’re into film noir, steamy romances, Al Pacino, Ellen Barkin, and serial killers, you’ll love Sea of Love. I was only interested in two of those elements, so the main plot of this movie didn’t thrill me. I never go out of my way to watch movies about serial killers, and only sat through this one for the sake of its handsome leading man. It’s always cheap, I think, to glorify a deplorable person who kills repeatedly and methodically. Sure, the cop or detective trying to stop the killer is usually the good guy, but can’t there be anyone else he’s trying to bring to justice?
That aside, the film succeeds in what it tries to do. It tries to hook the audience into a steamy romance with two good-looking people, and it does. It tries to be spooky as the bodies pile up, and it is. It tries to be unpredictable in a tired-out genre, and it is, unless you’ve seen so many of these movies that you can guess every plot point a mile away.
Kiddy Warning: Obviously, you have control over your own children. However, due to violence and sex scenes, I wouldn't let my kids watch it.
