Spitfire (1934)
Even though Katharine Hepburn didn’t like the movie Spitfire, I thought she was adorable in it. She plays a backwater hick who falls in love with city boy Robert Young. At first, she’s a rough and tumble girl who throws rocks at people and uses incorrect English, but when Robert starts romancing her, she turns into a blushing schoolgirl. If you’ve seen the clip where she giggles into her hands then does a cartwheel, that’s from Spitfire.
The story itself isn’t that great. Robert Young and Ralph Bellamy come to the small town to build, and they stir up trouble within the town by inadvertently turning them against Kate. If you like those kinds of movies, where ignorance townsfolk turn on their own, you might be interested. I just thought Kate was cute, with her haircut and accent, and I didn’t bother paying attention to much else.
