The File on Thelma Jordan (1950)
It doesn’t seem to be very good casting to choose Barbara Stanwyck as a damsel in distress, does it? Unless it’s all an act. . . In The Film on Thelma Jordan, Barbara comes to policeman Wendell Corey for help because there’s been a burglary in her home and she’s frightened. He believes her, and even though he’s married, he buys her a drink to help calm her nerves.
I don’t like usually like Wendell Corey, and even though this film didn’t really change my opinion of him—that runs pretty deep—I still liked the movie. It’s an entertaining film noir with a forbidden romance that will have you cringing and shouting at the television. It’s always fun to tell a man in a movie what to do, and to have him not hear you and do something stupid anyway, isn’t it? If you think so, you’ll love The Film on Thelma Jordan. I particularly liked the twists and turns in the plot. This one is a real nail-biter!
