Where Danger Lives (1950)
I’m telling you right now, you’re not going to rent Where Danger Lives for Claude Rains. Rent Mr. Skeffington or Now, Voyager instead if you want to see a lot of Claude. In Where Danger Lives, he’s married to the insane Faith Domergue, and he dies after the first fifteen minutes of the movie!
Robert Mitchum, a well-adjusted, handsome doctor, get sucked into Faith’s web and has an affair. One night, he has way too much to drink and comes to her house, confronts her husband, and gets in a deadly fight. With a motive and a bad situation, he agrees with Faith’s plan: flee from the scene of the crime and head for Mexico. That’s such a great idea, especially because he’s drunk, not thinking clearly, and has a concussion from getting hit in the head with a fire poker. Do you think the rest of the movie will be smooth sailing for the couple?
The bad news about Where Danger Lives is Faith Domergue. She has some of the craziest eyes I’ve ever seen, so I couldn’t believe that Robert Mitchum would fall for her, trust her, and take her advice! It didn’t help that she reminded me of one of my crazy-eyed relatives. The good news about the movie is mussy-haired Robert Mitchum. He may play an idiot, but he looks so gorgeous with a concussion and a lack of sleep, it’s easy to forgive him. Ladies, if you’re a fan, you’ll be able to stomach the bizarre storyline for eighty minutes of drool time.
