Notes from the Members of the Board:
1949 marked a big change in movies. The subjects were more controversial, such as racial in-equality, the dialogue more explicit, depicting sexual encounters, and the violence more realistic. Deborah Kerr never won a competitive Oscar, although she nominated five times. She was properly placed in the supporting category for Edward, My Son, and we were proud to award her a most deserved Rag.
Dean Stockwell makes Rag history by becoming the first actor to win three Rag awards, and Olivia de Havilland is the first actress to win two back-to-back Rags. Not nominated for a single Oscar, Down to the Sea in Ships swept up four Rag awards.
After five nominations, Miklos Rozsa finally takes home a Rag award.
