Humphrey Bogart famously said, “Awards are meaningless for actors, unless they all play the same part.” That being said, in 1954, two actors played alcoholics and two actresses played long-suffering wives. In such similar roles, all four gave excellent performances, and we were happy to give double ties in our lead categories.
After five nominations for heavy dramatic performances, Kirk Douglas finally wins a Rag Award for his delightful comedic turn in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
