Accident (1967)
Welcome to the sexual revolution of the 1960s, a world where young girls could think nothing of having three simultaneous love affairs with men who all know each other. In Accident, Jacqueline Sassard plays a college student who captures the attentions of a classmate and two teachers. While she openly has a relationship with young, fluffy haired Michael York, she taunts her two professors, Dirk Bogarde and Stanley Baker, in private. Longing glances, secret smiles – we all know how dangerous it can be when a girl teases and a man takes it seriously. Keep in mind this is a drama, and it is titled Accident.
Another thing to keep in mind is the nonlinear style of the plot. The vast majority of the movie is told in a flashback, with Dirk narrating the hold his young student had on him prior to the opening car accident. If you generally like forbidden romances, especially involving a married man, you’ll probably be drawn to renting this old flick. It is pretty slow, and not really as steamy as you’d think, so don’t expect to find your new favorite.
DLM Warning: If you suffer from vertigo or dizzy spells, like my mom does, this movie might not be your friend. The opening scene is of a car accident, and some of the angles will make you sick. In other words, "Don't Look, Mom!"
