Bachelorette (2012)
I’ve never seen Bridesmaids, but if it’s anything like Bachelorette, I think I’ll skip it. I appreciated the dysfunction of the characters, but it wasn’t an enjoyable movie. If you have a very dark sense of humor, you might think over-the-top situations that would ruin lives if executed in real life are funny. I didn’t.
I didn’t think it was funny for the bridesmaids to rip the bridal dress and scramble around to try and fix it, only to have one of the girls bleed on it from an overdose of cocaine. I found it a bit disturbing. The premise is that three girls (Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, and Lizzy Caplan) are supposed to rally around their friend and bride-to-be (Rebel Wilson), but their jealousy and personal problems threaten to ruin the wedding. The three leads have a lot of deep-seeded problems that just can’t be fixed in a ninety-minute movie. If you want to watch something dark in order to make your own problems seem smaller, or if you want reassurance that no one escapes the world unscathed, you stand a better chance at enjoying it than I did. I thought it would be a cute Kirsten Dunst movie. Oops!
Kiddy Warning: Obviously, you have control over your own children. However, due to drug use and adult content, I wouldn’t let my kids watch it.
