Cedar Cove #10: 1022 Evergreen Place
by Debbie Macomber
Once again, Mary Jo’s storyline continues in the 10th volume of the Cedar Cove series, so if you’re wondering where she came from, go back and read the Christmas volume that was released before the 9th book: A Cedar Cove Christmas. She and her love interest Mack are the main focus of this book, so it might be a good time to get caught up on your holiday reading.
If you’re already caught up, or you don’t care because Debbie Macomber’s always fantastic at writing interesting catch-up passages, you can check in with everyone else in Cedar Cove, the wonderfully quaint town off of Seattle. Unfortunately, most of the regulars from the earlier volumes in the series have very small parts in this novel or aren’t mentioned at all. Olivia, Jack, Grace, and Cliff only get a cursory check-in, and Olivia’s and Grace’s children take some time off, but hopefully everyone will reappear in the following book to let readers know how they’re doing.
The meat of the book is taken up with the newer Cedar Cove couples: Mary Jo and Mack, Linc and Lori, Christie and James, and Will Jefferson’s pursuit of love in middle age. I find Will a fascinating character, and I love reading about his journey and character growth, but the other couples haven’t earned as big a place in my heart as the old faithfuls.
