Down to You (2000)
Is there any ’90s kid who doesn’t remember Down to You? If so, I haven’t met her. I saw it three or four times during the decade. It was just one of those movies you went to see in the theaters with your friends or rented during a sleepover. It’s fun!
Two biggest stars of teen movies at that time, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Julia Stiles, teemed up in this college romance. Perfectly timed during the age when it was still meaningful to sleep with your boyfriend for the first time, this on-again, off-again romance is sweet and for the young at heart. Freddie and Julia meet at college and they enjoy all the firsts. If you watch this movie now, it’ll seem incredibly dated, but just remember how sweet first love was back in the millennium. If you’ve seen it before, though, I’m sure it’ll all come back to you and warm your heart. You’ll smile at Julia’s passion for cake, you’ll hold your breath during the pregnancy scare, you’ll cringe when they each consider a revenge relationship with someone else, and you’ll hope, from start to finish, that they’ll find a happy ending by the end of the movie.
