Every Thing Will Be Fine (2015)
Overall, this is an excellent film. I can’t tell you when I’ll be able to rent it for the second time, but I’m glad I watched it because of the extremely chilling scene in the beginning. It’s stayed with me for years as one of the greatest shocks I’ve seen in a modern movie. Obviously, if I describe it to you, the surprise will be blown; but you’ll have to trust me that the beginning sequence is incredible.
As the movie progresses, the characters have to process and progress after everything that happened. James Franco’s character is a writer who channels his feelings into his work, but even with that healthy outlet, he’s still very disturbed. He cycles through three women as the years pass, Rachel McAdams, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Marie Josée Croze. Through his excellent performance in this film, Franco shows how guilt and regret can tear apart a person’s soul. Contrary to the title, as you watch him, you wonder how he manages to shuffle through every day. This movie will give you an emotional experience, so make sure you’re in the mood to sift through your own regrets, gratitude, despair, and hope before you rent it.
Kiddy Warning: Obviously, you have control over your own children. However, due to adult subject matter and upsetting scenes involving a child, I wouldn’t let my kids watch it.
DLM Warning: If you suffer from vertigo or dizzy spells, like my mom does, this movie might not be your friend. There’s a scene involving a merry-go-round and the camera spins around, and it will make you sick. In other words, “Don’t Look, Mom!”
