I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)
Picking up where the famed horror classic left off, the surviving members of I Know What You Did Last Summer are trying to make do in college, but they’re still tormented by their past. Jennifer Love Hewitt has nightmares and Freddie Prinze Jr witnesses a brutal attack by a familiar hooked-fellow. So, when Jennifer and her roommate Brandy win a radio sweepstakes for a Bahaman vacation, they think it’s the perfect opportunity to relax and forget about scary bad guys. Brandy brings her boyfriend Mekhi Phifer, and Matthew Settle is the slow-moving, considerate love interest for Jennifer. She’s still wary, but maybe in the tropical setting everything will work out. Except that this is a horror movie! Nothing will work out! Bodies will get stabbed, heads will roll, and screams will sound every five minutes.
As this is a classic 1990s staple, you’ll see lots of familiar faces, like Bill Cobbs Jeffrey Combs, Jennifer Esposito, John Hawkes, and Jack Black. Although, Jack Black’s role as a dope-peddling, perpetually high, wannabe Jamaican gets very old very fast. For a lightweight like me, the old ’90s horror movies are as gruesome as I want them to get. Yes, there is some blood, but there aren’t strung out intestines and juicy sound-effects that will stick with me forever. Modern audiences will probably think it’s too tame, but those who like the old school flavor will appreciate the double-feature.
