Little Fish (2005)
She puts on an accent in almost all of her movies, so it’s a real treat to see Cate Blanchett in an Australian movie using her real voice. In Little Fish, you’ll get to see Aussies Hugo Weaving, Sam Neill, and Cate all using their “native tongues”. It has a bit of an indie feel to the movie, but if you’re in the mood for a piece of Australian cinema, you can give it a shot.
The plot revolves around a bad girl trying to go good. Cate has gotten into trouble in the past, but she longs to shed her past and try for a fresh start. She used to be on heroin, but now she’s clean and wants to have a normal career. Will her ex-boyfriend, Dustin Nguyen, and her former dealer, Sam Neill, let her? As anyone who’s tried to change knows, it’s difficult if you still hang around the same crowd. Cate’s dad, Hugo Weaving, is still on drugs, which adds another obstacle to her fresh start. Being the only “nonsmoker” in the room is quite intimidating. If this heavy drama appeals to you, check it out!
