Malice (1993)
Malice has an all-star cast, so no matter who you’re watching it for, you’ll see a host of familiar faces. It stars Bill Pullman, Nicole Kidman, and Alec Baldwin, and features Peter Gallagher, Bebe Neuwirth, George C. Scott, and Anne Bancroft. You’ll also see Brenda Strong as a secretary, Gwyneth Paltrow as an unreliable student, and Ann Cusack as a waitress, so keep your eyes open!
The story starts as most thrillers do: showing a normal, happy family in the suburbs. Bill and Nicole have a beautiful house they can’t really afford, but they’re happy and in love. Bill teaches at the university, and a few of his female students have been targeted by a serial rapist (but don’t worry, none of the crimes are shown on the screen) and he’s collaborating with the lead detective, Bebe. Alec is the new head surgeon in town, and after he successfully operates on one of the victims, Bill goes over to thank him. It turns out they went to school together! It’s an opening that leads to all sorts of complications; after all, it is a thriller.
This exciting and slightly scary flick is just my speed. It’s not too graphic, it keeps up the pace, and it keeps you guessing. Unless you really don’t like Nicole Kidman, you’ll probably enjoy it. Check it out!
Kiddy Warning: Obviously, you have control over your own children. However, due to violence and sexual content, I wouldn't let my kids see it.
