The Adventures of Milo & Otis (1986)
The Adventures of Milo and Otis is one of my favorite movies from childhood. My brother and I must have watched it a hundred times, for all the fond memories I have. It’s delightful, funny, exciting, adorable, and emotional. It still bogles the mind at how all the filmmakers were able to work with all the animals and film the story without special effects. Bears, porcupines, and tortoises, all paired with a little orange kitten and a pug!
Milo and Otis made me fall completely in love with Dudley Moore, and I didn’t even know he was a real person! I thought he was just a voice – but what a voice! He came up with all the delightful voices of all the animals and employed such an entertaining delivery it showed another avenue of his genius. He made children laugh, he brought adults back to the innocence of youth, and he taught everyone the greatest lesson: love, even the love of friendship, is the strongest force of all. The little orange kitten and the brave little pug go on even more adventures than The Incredible Journey, and the bond they share fuels them through it. Is there anything sweeter?
