Morning Glory (2010)
If you like movies like The Devil Wears Prada and 27 Dresses, you’ll like Morning Glory. The common threads are the flustered female protagonist who’s slightly inept and not that easy to root for, unrealistic interactions at work, and being able to tell people off without any consequences. Usually I find these movies too saccharine, but I realize there’s a big audience chunk that does like them.
Rachel McAdams is the star of this comedy, and she looks really pretty. If you’re able to root for her just for that reason, you’ll be in good shape. She works in television, and her assignment is to convince veteran news anchor Harrison Ford to co-host a lightweight morning talk show with airhead Diane Keaton. Obviously, she does, otherwise there wouldn’t be a story. But her problems are just beginning, because they can’t stand working together.
Go ahead and watch the preview, because it’s a very accurate representative of the movie. If you think it’s charming and funny, rent it for a girls’ night and pop some corn. If you’re rolling your eyes, watching the full running time won’t change your mind.
