Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger! (2012)
When it’s time for some Christmas silliness, pop in a copy of the very funny British flick Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger. It’s a great choice for anyone that likes quick, British humor, or if you love stories that revolve around singing competitions or performances. It’ll also work if you have so many children in your house around the holidays that you’re completely overruled at every turn. They’ll be happy, and you’ll find yourself laughing despite your best efforts.
I watched it for the first time because there was literally nothing else on television, but I ended up loving it. My sides hurt from laughing, and I now look forward to when all the kids come to the house so I can watch it again. I’ve never seen the first Nativity flick, but I do know it takes place in the same school setting with Marc Wootton as the energetic, child-focused kindergarten teacher aide. This sequel features David Tennant (in a comedy, who would have thought?) as the new teacher in the school, reluctantly sucked in by Marc to help the class enter a singing competition for the holiday.
Before you take my high recommendation and expect as sophisticated a comedy as Bachelor Mother, this movie is incredibly silly. Childish gags follow childish gags, but if you’re slap happy from Christmas stress, you’ll probably laugh until it hurts. I find it charming and hilarious, so give it a try when you round up all the grandkids.
