No Man of Her Own (1950)
I don’t want to tell you the premise of No Man of Her Own, because if you don’t know what’s going to happen, the movie will constantly surprise you. Even the opening scene is thrilling, when you least expect it!
Barbara Stanwyck stars in this mysterious romance, alongside John Lund and Jane Cowl. There was a remake in 1996, starring Rikki Lake, Brendan Fraser, and Shirley MacLaine. It’s up to you which version you watch first, but I like the remake a little better. It’s a little more exciting, and there are slight improvements along the way. The original still has the advantages of a good story, though.
This is one of those stories that would be ruined by revealing the plot, or even the setup to the plot, so unfortunately, I can’t tell you anything about it. If you like Barbara Stanwyck’s strength and her run of human emotions she always puts into her roles, you’ll probably want to rent it. It’s exciting, clever, and romantic. Pick whichever cast you like better and start with one, then rent the other!
