Our Man Flint (1966)
I was expecting a very funny spy spoof from Our Man Flint because of the supposed similarities to the Austin Powers movies, but it wasn’t that silly. There were some humorous moments, like James Coburn’s guard dog escorting his guests literally by the hand, and Lee J. Cobb’s phone having the same ringtone as Austin Powers; but I found most of it as boring as a regular Sean Connery Bond film. I know, a lot of you will want to throw things at me, but the early Bonds were never my favorite.
Having seen both movies, In Like Flint has my vote for a far more enjoyable flick. It’s much funnier, Lee J. Cobb’s role is expanded, and James Coburn has some very fun action scenes and stunts. This one is very much like an American James Bond, with the beautiful girls, slightly slow storyline, threat to world safety, and a loose cannon secret agent. Of course, if you’re a Coburn fan, you won’t want to miss either of them.
