Prime (2005)
Prime is such a cringe-worthy movie, but it’s very well done so it’s worth watching once. I’ve seen it twice and enjoyed it both times. Those of you who love awkward comedies might find your next favorite.
Uma Thurman is in therapy, and when she starts a new relationship with Bryan Greenberg, she’s anxious to tell her therapist, Meryl Streep, about it. Who doesn’t like to tell all the new, exciting details to their girlfriends and brag about their new boy toy? Those of us who have been to therapy know that the person with the notepad isn’t our friend, and they aren’t being paid to giggle and congratulate us on our bedroom activities. Meryl in particular has a tough time supporting her patient, and for a darn good reason: Uma’s new boyfriend is her son. Plot twist!
You’ve been warned; this is an awkward movie. Mothers and sons probably won’t want to watch it together, and you might not want to buy your mom a copy for Mother’s Day. It’s very entertaining, although you’ll be shrinking in your seat and feeling terribly sorry for Meryl during certain scenes. What will happen to the couple? Will Mama interfere? There’s only one way to find out. Gather a bunch of your girlfriends together for movie night this weekend. This is a chick flick.
