Starsky & Hutch (2004)
Since I’d never seen any original episodes of the 1970s television series, I was not the target audience to enjoy the 2004 film version of Starsky & Hutch. I could tell that Ben Stiller was trying to imitate Paul Michael Glaser, and I did have quite a chuckle at the ’70s period clothes, music, and cars, but most of the humor was lost on me.
There are tons of comedians thrown into this movie, and if you’re a fan of the eclectic mixture of humor, you’ll probably split a gut laughing. I’m not the target audience for drug-themed humor, and I just felt sorry for the actors during Will Ferrell’s segment. Are we supposed to laugh at his sexual degeneracy? Had this movie been made today, I highly doubt those jokes would have been included.
If you loved the original series, or you generally love when Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson team up, give it a shot. If, like me, you could barely get through Zoolander and Meet the Parents, you might not laugh as much as the screenwriters wanted you to.
