Sweet Valley University #26: The Trial of Jessica Wakefield
by Laurie John
Oh, the drama! Oh, the misery! Oh, the suspense! Oh, the. . . jail? At Sweet Valley University, the adorable gang of kids who won your hearts in elementary school manage to get in an ungodly amount of trouble without facing expulsion.
Jessica seems to be the star of this show as she faces serious jail time since no one believes her story and all the evidence is against her, but as you read on, all the secondary characters pitch in for a wonderfully thrilling read. Will anyone finally believe Jessica, and will the real criminal be put behind bars?
Elizabeth, while not physically involved in a trial, is put on trial in her private life. She’s put in a difficult, uncomfortable, damaging situation, and rather than keep quiet, she decides to tell the truth. Her boyfriend Tom doesn’t believe her, since her tale implicates someone he’s close to. How terrible for poor Liz, to feel alone, unsafe, and unsupported by the man who’s supposed to love her no matter what. Trust me, the twins’ trials are equally riveting in this volume. There’s no cliffhanger to this book, which is quite a relief after the rollercoaster of the past few books, so take a breather with the thriller edition What Winston Saw.
