Sweet Valley University #29.5: Dead Before Dawn
by Laurie John
Dead Before Dawn might be my favorite of the Thriller Editions of Sweet Valley University so far! As usual with the Thrillers, they don’t have anything to do with the normal timeline, and afterwards, the regular books will forget everything that happened in them. So, in this volume, while Bruce Patman gets poisoned and has 24 hours to find his killer and the antidote, there’s no mention of the very sad tragedy everyone went through in the previous book. You get a break!
I loved the earlier books when Bruce and Lila were stranded together, fighting for their survival, after their plane crashed. It’s so exciting for the ultra-rich characters to find themselves in completely different situations and adapt and grow. The normally suave and surface Bruce has to dig deeper in this book, and as he’s already shown, he’s a lot more than most of his college pals give him credit for.
Elizabeth, Tom, and Todd aren’t in this book. Given their recent love triangle, it’s understandable that they give the readers a little break before a resolution is worked out. Jessica has a sizable part, as does Lila, so if you like the fluffy characters like I do, you’ll love this one!
