Sweet Valley University #34: Spy Girl
by Laurie John
If you’re getting a little tired of Elizabeth pining away for the first-class jerk who’s been extremely mean ever since he dumped her, Jessica steps up to the plate in Spy Girls to lighten the mood. As we all know, she’s been begging her hottie cop boyfriend Nick to take her along on an undercover assignment, and he finally gets forced into it. There’s been a murder at a country club (only at Sweet Valley!) and Nick gets sent to investigate. He has to pose as a preppy guy with all-access to the couples-only VIP lounge, so his boss insists he take Jessica along as his partner. She gets so excited! But, since she can’t let any of her friends recognize her, she dons a ridiculous Eva Peron getup as a disguise. It’s very funny, as are the antics of Pepper Danforth, Lila, Bruce, and the other silly people at the country club. This is just as fluffy and hilarious as we need at this point in the series.
Elizabeth is in this installment, but she’s not as tearful and heartbroken as she’s been recently. She gets sent to write a fluff piece at the country club, with her new writing partner, Scott Sinclair. He’s cute, but a little too smooth. How do you think she’ll respond to him? Tom is also in this book, fighting off (not too much) the advances of the beautiful seductress, Dana.
