Sweet Valley University #41: Escape to New York
by Laurie John
I’ve really enjoyed these new summer internship Sweet Valley books, haven’t you? Don’t get me wrong; the beach was entertaining, but the change of pace has been very funny. Make sure you read the prior two books (Elizabeth Loves New York and Private Jessica) beforehand so you can get the full experience. Escape to New York is the final summer one before the girls go back to school, and they’re both happily reunited in New York. Jessica’s swamp days are behind her, and she joins her twin in the dramatic theatrical world. Why didn’t she realize that was her calling all along? Jessica loves attention, drama, and hobnobbing among the rich and famous – of course she’s going to thrive there!
Tom’s master plan of finally getting “closer” to Elizabeth is naturally put on hold with the arrival of her chaperone. He and Jessica never really got along, but now he has bigger problems to deal with. He has a summer job, but it’s in a sleazy gossip news station. Liz would be ashamed of him if she found out – and guess what his latest assignment is? Yes, the fun and humor continues in this book, but all great things must come to an end, and we must follow them back to California for the new school term. The great thing is that you can always re-read your favorites if you want!
