The Girl Who Knew Too Much (1969)
If you loved seeing Adam West as the do-gooder Batman, you can try seeing him as a former detective in the sixties noir The Girl Who Knew Too Much. This B-picture doesn’t really require anything of anyone involved, not even the audience. The plot is easy to follow: ex-detective is drawn in to solve a murder case and finds himself embroiled in a Communist conspiracy. Adam West is merely hardboiled, and his ex-girlfriend Nancy Kwan is merely eye candy. They have a couple of scenes in which they discuss why it didn’t work out between them, and could they maybe try again, but it’s not the most interesting movie out there.
There are also several musical numbers performed by Buddy Greco that are randomly inserted as scene transitions. After some supposedly tense drama, the camera cuts back to the nightclub and Buddy sings a not very entertaining song at the piano. If all his songs were cut, the movie would probably only be an hour long, but would anyone complain? Next time I want to see Nancy Kwan, I’ll stick with Flower Drum Song.
