The Hot Chick (2002)
In case you missed the millennium decade, you missed the hilarious Rob Schneider comedy The Hot Chick. It was one of Rachel McAdams’s first movies, and it was no wonder she landed a very similar role in the classic teen comedy Mean Girls shortly afterwards. Anna Farris actually had a larger role, but since the entire story revolved around Rachel, she made quite an impression. It was also specifically aimed at teens of the era, with jokes about the Backstreet Boys and clapping hand games.
It’s too bad that this gender-bender comedy hasn’t stood the test of time. It would have been a lot of fun to just keep laughing at it without taking it seriously, but twenty years later, it’s not socially acceptable. I mean, this film pokes fun at transvestites, homosexuality, obesity, Mexican gardeners, and priest molestation. The line, “I’m so lesbian right now,” was hilarious twenty years ago because it was ridiculous; now, if someone utters the same line, it’s supposed to be taken seriously. However, if you’re completely tuned out of 2022-era humor and you’re remained stuck in the millennium, feel free to watch this movie any time you want to. You can even make a drinking game out of it, imbibing whenever there’s a joke that’s no longer politically correct.
