The Last Time I Saw Paris
by Lynn Sheene
The opening pages of The Last Time I Saw Paris are captivating. A gorgeous woman is at a party, forced to make nice with high-ranking members of the Nazi Party because her husband is wealthy and expects her to act a certain way. She knows how to flirt and be a good hostess, and she enjoys the benefits of living the high life – but when she gets thrown from her pedestal, she’s forced to flee her husband, her home, and her country.
Taking risks at every turn, sneaking and lying when she has to, she escapes to Paris. Penniless except for her fur coat and a diamond necklace she keeps carefully hidden away, she sees the horrors of Nazi-occupied France from a different perspective: being poor and trying to hide. Taken in by a stern, compassionate, patriotic proprietress of a flower shop, she learns a new trade and a new way of life. Interesting and exciting, this modern novel is a must-reed for fans of historical fiction. The language of Lynn Sheene’s book is beautiful, imaginative, and truly transports you to the time period. The only anti-recommendation would be if you don’t like the genre. There are many who don’t like Underground Resistance books and movies, but those who do will find a new treasure in this one.
