The Man with Two Brains (1983)
Looking for a romance that promotes inner beauty? Look no further than The Man with Two Brains, a quirky comedy starring Steve Martin, Kathleen Turner, and the voice of Sissy Spacek. Steve stars as a brain surgeon who commits the strangest sort of infidelity ever. He marries the beautiful Kathleen Turner but after her cold and mean treatment, he falls in love with a brain preserved in a jar. A fellow scientist David Warner talks to him about a new invention of preserving a brain after the person has died, and as Steve talks to the brain, he realizes that he’s been hasty in marrying a woman for her outer beauty.
In classic ’80s style, this movie is a bit of a modern screwball comedy. There’s tons of slapstick, wacky humor, and silly sex jokes that will make the teenagers in the audience howl with laughter. If you like Steve Martin’s movies where he’s a wild and crazy guy, this one might be one of your favorites. It’s pretty silly, but it’s worth a watch if you’re in the mood for something light and offbeat. Steve Martin certainly embodies the term “mad scientist”!
