The Selection #3: The One
by Kiera Cass
There really isn’t any way to make it through the first two books of The Selection series without needing to see it through the third book. After all, given the title, Prince Maxon will presumably pick “the one” winner of the princess contest. Will America finally give her heart completely and shake her past with Aspen? Will Maxon find out about her deceit and choose someone else instead? Will Aspen remind her of her roots and win her back? All good questions, and all will be answered in this book.
While it is a tad predictable (because we all saw certain plot twists mapped out since the first book), it isn’t any less exciting or engaging because we know what’s coming. There are still a few tea parties and beautiful gown descriptions, but there are even more rebel attacks and plots against the royal family. If you don’t like that part of the story, you might be better off sticking with the first book where everything’s safe and sweet. However, if you find America’s brashness refreshing and you want her to succeed in not only winning the prince but shaking up the politics of the country, you’ll be thoroughly engrossed in every part of the novel. I was very glad to complete the journey – but lo and behold, there are more books! I won’t tell you what’s covered in the next book, but there will be a preview at the end of The One that will give you an idea.
