The Spirit of Christmas (2015)
Even though it’s not a Hallmark movie, I watch The Spirit of Christmas every year. It’s so enjoyable! The acting is great, the story is fresh, and the setting is very festive.
Up in the Canadian snow, there’s a beautiful house up for sale. The only problem is no one will buy it because the ghost, Thomas Beaudoin, keeps driving them away. In exchange for a promised partnership in the firm, a beautiful career woman, Jen Lilley, is sent to organize the sale before Christmas. Jen doesn’t believe in ghosts, nor does she believe the caretaker Robert Walsh, who tells her the ghost is very real but mostly minds his own business. Robert has a working relationship with the ghost, but Jen is more hostile. When confronted with a strange, handsome man in the house, Jen doesn’t believe he’s a ghost. Thomas disappears and reappears before her very eyes, so she has to face facts.
Why is he haunting this house when he’s been dead since the 1920s? Why does he only feel full human senses in the days before Christmas? Why can’t he remember the exact details about his death? In addition to a Christmas drama, and in addition to a romance, The Spirit of Christmas is also a mystery. While Jen tries to figure out why Thomas’s ghost still remains, she also learns how to fall in love. I would have been perfectly happy if she fell for the handsome caretaker, but he’s not the lead in the movie.
If you haven’t seen this movie yet, check the tv schedule for its next airing. It’s extremely romantic and entertaining, and it’ll make you an instant fan of the cast. Sometimes saccharine-sweet movies get a little old, so for a movie you can sink your teeth into without getting a cavity, rent The Spirit of Christmas.
