The Stranger (1946)
I watched The Stranger twice without realizing it until the last ten minutes, and now that it’s been a few years, I still barely remember the plot. That doesn’t speak too highly of Orson Welles’s mysterious drama.
Edward G. Robinson starts the movie traveling to a small town. He doesn’t say much about himself, but when he stops in a small shop, he admires a clock. He drums up a lot of suspicion because he is a “stranger” in town, but in fact, the man everyone thinks they know in town, Orson Welles, is really a “stranger” on the inside. Orson is married to Loretta and is a respected member of society, but will Eddie G drudge up a lot of old dirt from his past?
Since I didn’t remember it, I think it’s safe to say I didn’t like it. Unless you’re a huge Orson fan, I wouldn’t really recommend it. Loretta’s usual acting talents don’t impress, and Eddie G isn’t given anything to do.
