The Vow (2012)
Like most of America, I flocked to the movie theaters Valentine’s weekend of 2012 to see The Vow. How romantic was this true story, and why wasn’t it infinitely more famous than The Notebook? You’ve got two good-looking people who get to fall in love with each other twice, and an utterly devoted man willing to do anything to win her heart again. In other words, it’s the ultimate chick flick.
As Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum start off the movie as extremely happy newlyweds, there’s a terrible tragedy that changes both of their lives forever. Rachel loses her memory after being hit by a car; when she wakes up in the hospital bed and sees her husband sitting beside her, she actually thinks he’s the doctor on her case. She’s in for shock after shock as she learns that she is married, and that she has been estranged from her parents. Instead of bonding with Channing, she wants to return to the safety of her mom and dad, Jessica Lange and Sam Neill. Can Channing win her heart, and will her mind allow her memories to return?
A perfect date night or girls' night movie, it will pretty much make you fall in love with Channing Tatum and wish you were Rachel McAdams (but without the brain damage). It’s a very touching story, and unlike many romances that are overrated, this one deserves the high praise.
