The Witches of Eastwick (1986)
The start of The Witches of Eastwick will lead you to believe the rest of the movie is a funny chic flick. Three single women, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Cher are best friends and lonely. They have girls’ nights and lament that there are no good men anywhere. Each describes her perfect man, and then Jack Nicholson moves into town. . . As he seduces each of the women, he manages to convince them that he’s what the manifestation of their wishes. Jack is hilarious and charming, with every line of dialogue making you smirk or laugh.
Similar to Practical Magic, it starts off cuter than it ends. The second half of the film gets pretty creepy, so buckle up and grab a pillow to hide behind. The three titular ladies have no idea that they are witches, but when they discover their power, will it be any match for the devilish Jack? This isn’t as gruesome as it would be if it were made today, but you’ll see some voodoo doll magic and projectile vomiting. It’s a great cast (and the ladies get to sport some incredible 1980s perms), so rent it for a thrilling girls’ night!
Kiddy Warning: Obviously, you have control over your own children. However, due to creepy and frightening scenes, I wouldn’t let my kids watch it.
