Unfaithfully Yours (1948)
I know he’s famous for playing Henry Higgins, but one of Rex Harrison’s best performances can really be found fifteen years earlier, in Unfaithfully Yours. It’s an adorable movie, and one of the few times he’s able to really let his hair down. He plays a famous conductor who believes his wife, Linda Darnell, is cheating on him. Rex’s brother-in-law Rudy Vallee accidentally hired a private eye to spy on Linda, with pretty conclusive evidence.
As this is a Preston Sturges comedy, Rex goes berserk. He imagines a perfect scenario in which he gets to murder Linda and frame her lover for it. It’s very funny to see him going mad while conducting classical music, and it’s even funnier when all his plans go wrong. If you like this version, check out the Dudley Moore remake for even more humor!
