View from the Top (2003)
If you think Gwyneth Paltrow is beautiful (and who doesn’t?), you’ll probably want to catch her in View from the Top, a quirky comedy about becoming a stewardess. This movie takes place in the former world of glitz and glamour, and only ladies who were tall and thin and looked like Barbie dolls were allowed to serve peanuts and sodas on airplanes. So, naturally, Gwyneth thinks she’s got an easy ride to the top!
She starts out in a hick town in Nevada, wanting to get away from her family and rise above how she grew up. Flying around and seeing the world sounds glamorous, especially when inspired by former stewardess Candice Bergen, so she joins a training school with Christine Applegate, Kelly Preston, and Stacey Dash – beautiful girls who also look like Barbies!
An interesting aspect of the movie is showing the education behind becoming a flight attendant. We don’t usually think about it, but they have to be trained in all sorts of things. Mike Myers plays the cross-eyed, kooky instructor, and he puts these girls through the ringer! The other gents in the movie are Mark Ruffalo, Marc Blucas, and Rob Lowe. This movie’s a bit offbeat, but it’s still fun.
