Vivacious Lady (1938)
It’s always fun to see real-life couples acting together in a romantic movie. Although they didn’t get married, James Stewart and Ginger Rogers were a hot item for a while, and they made Vivacious Lady together in 1938. They also won Academy Awards together during the 1940 ceremony (for different movies)!
In this cute romantic comedy, Jimmy plays a stuffy professor and Ginger plays a, well, vivacious lady. They’re drawn together, and after a whirlwind courtship, when he discovers his playful side and she feels triumphant for getting him to let his hair down, they elope. The only trouble is, when they travel to meet his folks, Jimmy doesn’t have the nerve to tell his parents, Charles Coburn and Beulah Bondi, that they actually got married. Charles “Piggy” Coburn is very strict and proper, and he expects his son to follow in his footsteps. Do you think Ginger will prove to be vivacious enough to wear everyone down? You’ll have to rent this cute flick to find out.
