Stolen Thoughts
by Tim Tigner
What would you do with a pair of glasses that allowed you to read people’s thoughts? In the sequel to The Price of Time, whose hypothetical involved immortality, Tim Tigner continues the journey of the surviving characters as they run into another scientific breakthrough. No spoilers here, so if you haven’t read the first book, I won’t ruin it for you.
Everyone I’ve asked (as I recommend these two books) had maintained that they wouldn’t use the magical glasses on their friends, partners, and family – but why not? If you have the opportunity to find out what those closest to you really think about you, it might be worth it to find out you need new friends. In any case, the heroine of the book realizes she can’t share her invention with the world. If world leaders could read each other’s thoughts, the Earth would be obliterated in seconds! Instead, she hides her glasses in plain sight: she becomes a famous psychic in Las Vegas. Ingenious, right?
The most interesting part of this book, to me, was the description of how the glasses were invented. Not only was the backstory of the science behind the technology was interesting, but the main character’s motivation was very compelling. If you’re intrigued by the premise, find a copy of both books and get ready for two very wild rides! I’m hooked on Tim Tigner’s books and already can’t wait to read another one.
