The Price of Time
by Tim Tigner
What would you do if you were a young millionaire who injected a drug that gave you immortality? Tim Tigner’s novel The Price of Time traces eight scientists who discover the fountain of youth and keep the secret to themselves. There are some flaws in this wildly intriguing premise (like the fact that people can get wrinkles through repeated expressions when they’re in their twenties, so the anti-aging treatment might not be foolproof), but it’s still a great conversation starter. One interesting note: Tigner’s backstory is fascinating, so you might want to read the “About the Author” page first to lend extra credibility to some of the plot points in the novel.
As a female reader, my first question was, “Will you put on weight?” If you never get sick or old, will the monthly injection also give you a slim figure so you can enjoy eternity eating donuts and potato salad? Unfortunately, food and its consequences were never discussed in this book – but I won’t hold that against it. Entertaining from start to finish, I have already recommended this novel to several friends. It is a suspense thriller, though, so just in case you thought it would be a slow drama about how these people spend eternity (which I would have been just as interested to read) it’s fast-paced with some dangerous twists and turns. If you like reading action books like Jack Reacher but with a “what if” twist, this will be right up your alley.
